Postpartum

Midwives will care for parent and baby up to 6 weeks postpartum. You will then need to book with either your family physician or pediatrician at 8 weeks.

Regardless of where you deliver, you will be visited by your midwife within 24 hours of delivery, and then twice more at home during the first week. You will usually have 3 more visits at the clinic where your midwife will check on both you and baby.

Midwives will provide breast/chest feeding support, monitor general wellbeing of birthing parent both physically and emotionally, and provide routine checks of baby.

At 6 weeks postpartum you will be discharged from care and be given a summary of baby’s progress to pass on to your health care provider.

 

Your midwife will discuss the infant hearing test with you during your postpartum visits. A referral is not required as long as baby is under 4 weeks old. You can book your appointment as follows:
